About the role

SUMMARY:

As the Employee Relations Manager, you'll lead a small team of HR professionals focused on resolving workplace conflicts, misconduct, and other employment matters in the US and Canada. Collaborating closely with the North American HR team, you'll share insights and best practices to enhance service delivery and identify areas for improvement.

What you’ll be doing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Lead and supervise a team of employee relations specialists.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to team members.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.

Employee Relations Strategy:

  • Develop and implement effective employee relations strategies to enhance overall employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Proactively identify potential employee relations issues and address them promptly.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to align employee relations initiatives with organizational goals.

Conduct Investigations:

  • Lead and conduct complex investigations into employee relations issues such as harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace misconduct.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information, interview involved parties, and analyze evidence to reach well-founded conclusions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of investigations, ensuring documentation is organized and accessible for future reference.
  • Prepare comprehensive and clear investigation reports, outlining findings, conclusions, and recommended actions.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted in compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable employment laws.
  • Provide guidance to management on policy interpretation and implementation, promoting a fair and consistent approach to employee relations matters.

Conflict Resolution:

  • Collaborate with HR business partners, management, and legal counsel to facilitate the resolution of employee relations issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide guidance to management on conflict resolution and proactive measures to maintain a positive workplace culture.

Collaboration and Relationship Building:

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in handling employee relations matters.
  • Foster positive working relationships with employees, managers, and HR colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Training and Education:

  • Deliver training programs to educate employees and managers on relevant policies, procedures, and best practices in employee relations.
  • Stay abreast of changes in employment laws and regulations to ensure training materials are current and relevant.
About you

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent experience required
  • 3 years of proven experience as an Employee Relations Investigator or similar role both in the United States and Canada
  • Proven employee leading an employee relations team or other HR leadership role
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with employees at all levels.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., PHR, SPHR) is a plus
  • Bilingual, English and French strongly preferred
